La casa para Emi y Clari parte de la decisión de volver a vivir a la ciudad, a la casa de la infancia de Emiliano, y encontrar, en las preexistencias, un soporte capaz de ser transformado.
El proyecto se sitúa en un lote interno, en el corazón de manzana del barrio Escalante. Allí, una vivienda en planta baja y un departamento en planta alta definen un estado inicial fragmentado, con accesos y expansiones compartidas. La operación no consiste solo en ampliar, sino en redefinir relaciones: entre lo propio y lo común, entre suelo y altura, entre lo existente y lo nuevo.
Ante la incertidumbre estructural de la construcción original de planta baja, la intervención decide no apoyarse en ella. En cambio, busca posarse en el suelo. Cuatro puntos fundan una nueva lógica: pilares de hormigón armado que emergen en los patios existentes y reciben una estructura metálica liviana y desmontable.
La casa se construye entonces como un puente. Una pieza autónoma que atraviesa el aire y se posa con delicadeza en los vacíos de las preexistencias.
La elección del sistema no es solo técnica, sino también conceptual. Se recurre a una lógica cercana a la de ciertas infraestructuras locales, donde la forma es consecuencia directa de las fuerzas que la atraviesan. Elementos expuestos, uniones visibles, materiales que no ocultan su condición. Una “infraestructura doméstica”.
En su interior, la casa se organiza a partir de un espacio central ambiguo, capaz de expandirse o contraerse según su relación con el exterior. Dos terrazas lo tensionan: hacia el frente, el acceso y la vida social; hacia el fondo, un jardín en altura, más introspectivo, casi doméstico en su escala.
Más que una ampliación, el proyecto propone una reflexión sobre la densificación del tejido urbano consolidado: un retorno al barrio de la infancia que pone en valor la capacidad de transformación de las viviendas existentes como soporte de nuevas formas de habitar, reactivando así el potencial de la ciudad construida. La casa para Emi y Clari plantea construir en el vacío disponible, activar lo existente y habitar la superposición.

The house for Emi and Clari stems from the decision to return to the city, specifically to Emiliano’s childhood home, and to find within the pre-existing structure a framework capable of being transformed.
The project is located on an internal lot within the heart of a block in the Escalante neighborhood. There, a ground-floor dwelling and an upper-floor apartment defined a fragmented initial state, with shared access points and common areas. The intervention is not merely an expansion, but a redefinition of relationships: between the private and the common, between the ground and the sky, and between the existing and the new.
Given the structural uncertainty of the original ground-floor construction, the intervention chooses not to rely on it. Instead, it seeks to ground itself. Four points establish a new logic: reinforced concrete pillars that emerge within the existing courtyards to support a lightweight, demountable steel structure.
The house is thus constructed as a bridge—an autonomous piece that spans the air and lands delicately within the voids of the pre-existing structures.
The choice of system is not only technical but also conceptual. It draws upon a logic akin to certain local infrastructures, where form is a direct consequence of the forces passing through it. Exposed elements, visible joints, and materials that do not hide their condition: a «domestic infrastructure.»
Inside, the house is organized around an ambiguous central space, capable of expanding or contracting based on its relationship with the exterior. It is tensioned by two terraces: toward the front, the entrance and social life; toward the back, an elevated garden—more introspective and domestic in scale.
More than an expansion, the project proposes a reflection on the densification of consolidated urban fabric. It represents a return to the childhood neighborhood that values the transformative capacity of existing dwellings as a support for new ways of living, thereby reactivating the potential of the built city. The house for Emi and Clari proposes building within the available void, activating what already exists, and inhabiting the overlap.
